Problem Statement
Where an Electricity Supplier provides a quotation, or Third-Party Intermediary (TPI) completes a comparison, for an Electricity Consumer they must rely on the information provided by the Consumer about their electricity usage. In some cases, consumers may not have access to or knowledge of their annual electricity usage. Consequently, this would be estimated leading to potential inaccurate quotations being provided. Having access to the Metering Point level Estimated Annual Consumption (EAC) via the Electricity Enquiry Service (EES) would enable the provision of more accurate electricity quotations, enabling the Consumer to make an informed choice about their Electricity Supplier, tariff and product.
Proposed solution summary
- As a domestic Electricity Consumer, I want to be quoted accurately for my electricity usage based on my electricity consumption, so that I can make an informed decision to accept/reject the quotation offered.
- As an Electricity Supplier, I want to have access to the most recent Metering Point consumption data to be able to provide accurate prices/quotations to a consumer based on their Electricity usage.
- As a Third-Party Intermediary (TPI), I want to have access to the most recent Metering Point consumption data to be able to provide accurate prices/quotations to a consumer based on their Electricity usage.

EAC information in the EES API
Meter-level electricity consumption information (“EAC”) is not currently available via the EES API.
We need electricity consumption information to provide accurate quotes quickly. We also need the information to make sure that our auto switch customers remain on an appropriate tariff through time. Requiring the information to be entered manually by customers will make switching more difficult, especially for vulnerable customers, and increase the proportion of households on default tariffs.
EAC information needs to be added to the response from the EES API.
We already access the equivalent data for gas via GES/Xoserve.
